Last Monday, October 5th, during the RioMarket of the Rio International Film Festival, the Latin American Training Center-LATC and the Américas Film Conservancy-AFC announced their new publication “Brazilian Cinema Today: Essays by Critics and Experts from Across Brazil” (O CINEMA BRASILEIRO HOJE: Ensaios de críticos e especialistas de todo o país).
Curated by Susana Schild, local film critic for “O Globo” newspaper, the book is a collection of articles written by renowned film critics from every region of the country, and offers a true panorama on the evolution and current trends of the Brazilian film industry.
The Américas Film Conservancy-AFC and the Latin American Training Center-LATC joined forces to present this new, diverse vision of the thriving Brazilian audiovisual industry through perspectives of the past, present and future directions of this dynamic industry. The publication is consistent with the objectives of both AFC and LATC to support freedom of expression in film and its criticism, as well as to contribute to public awareness of cinema as an important artistic expression, as well as a form of entertainment.
In addition to a tool for the study and debate of Brazilian cinema, the collection serves as a sounding board for the most representative film critics of the nation on themes relevant to their respective cities and regions. Published in a bilingual English-Portuguese format, the book offers the widest possible access to readers around the world.
The book is now available on Amazon, and in bookstores throughout Brazil. For more information visit: Brazilian Cinema Today: Essays by Critics and Experts from Across Brazil.
