On November 7, in Los Angeles, the Latin American Training Center-LATC, the Consulate of Brazil in Los Angeles, and the Brazil-California Chamber of Commerce (BCCC) will hold the seminar “Social Impact Entertainment in Brazil.” This event will bring together industry experts to discuss the topic in detail and present specific case studies from Brazil.
Social Impact Entertainment (SIE) involves using media, visual arts, film, theater, music, and other forms of expression to promote positive social change, aiming to educate, raise awareness, and mobilize people around relevant social causes such as sustainability, social responsibility, and corporate governance.
At the seminar, William Nix, co-founder and executive director of the Social Impact Entertainment Society in the US, will outline the organization’s activities, funding, and policies to educate, connect, and empower entertainment professionals and nonprofit organizations.
Bia Oliveira, director of Brazilian Women in Entertainment, will address the importance of social impact entertainment and low-budget audiovisual projects aimed at increasing Brazil’s international visibility.
Ricardo Monastier, a business executive at Maria Farinha Filmes, a leading impact cinema company in Latin America, will highlight the company’s work in creating inspiring stories that resonate with and engage large audiences.
Steve Solot, president of LATC, will introduce the newest social impact entertainment project in Brazil: a course aimed at social inclusion of Rio communities through audiovisuals, titled “Making My First Movie.” Organized by LATC, this project is an initiative of the Culture Council of the Rio Commercial Association (ACRJ). Key partners in Rio de Janeiro include ABC Cursos de Cinema, the Special Secretariat for Carioca Youth (JuvRio), the Interstate Union of the Audiovisual Industry (SICAV), and the Motion Picture Association (MPA) in Brazil.
The seminar will be moderated by Felipe Cusnir, president of the BCCC, and will begin at 3:00 PM at the Brazilian Consulate, located at 6222 Wilshire Boulevard, Suite 600, in Los Angeles, USA.
