The book launch took place on September 2, at the local Telluride bookstore, Between the Covers, during the film festival. Aimed at international investors, film producers and others interested in the expanding local film and television industry, the book is published by the Latin American Training Center-LATC latamtrainingcenter.com and the Cesnik, Quintino & Salinas Law Firm www.cqs.adv.br. It presents an overview of the Brazilian market, broaching topics such as opportunities for investment, licensing content, and co-productions. The first launch event of the book took place at the Escola de Cinema Darcy Ribeiro, in Rio de Janeiro, on August 14th.

The Américas Film Conservancy (AFC) www.afcy.org is a California-registered non-profit 501(c) (3) organization dedicated to the development, enjoyment and preservation of Latin American film. AFC’s mission is to promote the development and preservation of Latin American films as a cultural and historical resource, with the goal of bringing greater mutual understanding between the U.S. and the Latin American region. AFC works with filmmakers, archives, universities, laboratories, NPO’s, production companies, and philanthropists to ensure the physical survival of historic works and the promotion of today’s filmmakers. The AFC is one of the sponsors of the Telluride Film Festival and the Filmmakers of Tomorrow.

The Telluride Film Festival has carved a niche by avoiding a competitive image, and instead as a celebration of the best, new films from around the world. Unlike other festivals, TFF doesn´t reveal the program until everyone arrives. There are no prizes, and therefore no juries, no market, no press screenings and no red carpet. The unique TFF experience has assured that their audiences were the first in the world to see groundbreaking films such as JUNO, BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN, THE CRYING GAME, BLUE VELVET, and THE CIVIL WAR. This year the TFF screened the new WB film ARGO, which was presented personally by its director and star Ben Affleck, HYDE PARK ON HUDSON, offering a Q&A with its stars Bill Murray and Laura Linney, a premier of RUST AND BONE, with the presence of its star for her tribute, Marion Cotillard, among many others.
