The study reports:
“The Rio de Janeiro Commercial Association (ACRJ) and the Latin American Training Center (LATC) have expanded their acclaimed initiative ‘Making My First Film’ throughout the state of Rio de Janeiro, offering six-week mobile filmmaking courses for young people aged 15 to 25 in vulnerable situations. These immersive programs not only teach skills in screenwriting, directing, and editing, but also provide transportation, meals, certifications, and access to distribution and festivals.
The launch of the January 2025 edition in Nova Iguaçu further illustrates Brazil’s integrated approach to education, social mobility, and cultural production. Conducted in partnership with local NGOs, cultural institutions, and the municipal government, the initiative empowered young people from favelas and underserved neighborhoods.
Under the leadership of Professor Pedro Dannemann and held at the Casa da Juventude Iguaçuana, the course provided essential skills in screenwriting, directing, and editing. Graduates gained not only technical knowledge but also access to internships at production companies and scholarships for continued education—helping bridge the gap between informal learning and formal entry into Brazil’s audiovisual industry.”
